Every offseason, NFL teams are forced to make difficult decisions between proven veterans and younger, less expensive talent. Whether it’s declining production, injury concerns, roster competition, or salary cap considerations, several recognizable names enter training camp with uncertain futures. Here are some veterans the Browns should be monitoring around the league who could find themselves on the chopping block before the start of the 2026 season.

The Browns are thin at several positions and could use cornerback depth, another rotational EDGE, and maybe a veteran tight end. However, it is still somewhat unclear how aggressively Andrew Berry is willing to make roster moves solely to increase their ability to win games this season.

Bud Dupree, OLB, Los Angeles Chargers

Bud Dupree has managed to remain a useful rotational pass rusher deep into his career, but his place on the Chargers’ roster appears less secure than it once was. After recording six sacks in 2024, his production declined significantly last season, finishing with just two sacks and 16 total tackles despite increased opportunities. Now entering his age-33 season, Dupree finds himself battling a wave of younger talent for snaps. First-round pick Akheem Mesidor is expected to have a prominent role in the edge rotation, while Kyle Kennard continues to push for playing time as well. With Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu locked into major roles, Dupree could be fighting for one of the final edge spots on the roster. The Chargers would also gain cap flexibility by moving on from the veteran, whose current cap hit sits at approximately $3.4 million.

Will Dissly, TE, Los Angeles Chargers

Will Dissly could find himself on the roster bubble as the Chargers continue to get younger at the tight end position. Injuries limited him to just nine games last season, and during his absence, rookie Oronde Gadsden II emerged as a larger part of the offense. Even after returning, Dissly struggled to reclaim a significant role in the offense. If the Chargers believe Gadsden is ready to take over as the primary tight end, Dissly’s future with the team becomes much less certain. Financially, Los Angeles could save roughly $4 million against the cap while absorbing only $1.5 million in dead money by releasing him.

T.J. Hockenson, TE, Minnesota Vikings

T.J. Hockenson has long been one of the league’s premier tight ends, but questions about his future in Minnesota are beginning to emerge. Since returning from the devastating knee injury he suffered in 2023, Hockenson has not consistently looked like the player he was before the injury. While still productive, his overall efficiency and impact dipped during the 2025 season. The Vikings also face a challenging salary cap situation, making several veteran contracts worth evaluating. Releasing Hockenson would save Minnesota approximately $8.9 million against the cap, though it would also result in a substantial $12.4 million dead cap charge.

The Cleveland Browns have done a lot to reshape their roster this offseason, but one area that appears rather thin on the depth chart is cornerback depth.

The starters are not the issue.

Denzel Ward remains one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks when healthy, and the addition of Tyson Campbell gives Cleveland a talented running mate on the outside. Myles Harden played better than expected last season and is likely positioned to take on the role in the slot again this season. He has flashed enough development to create some optimism about his future.

The concern begins after those three.

The Browns have several players competing for reserve roles, but there is a noticeable lack of proven depth behind the starters. Myles Bryant brings experience and versatility, and he is likely the Browns’ first corner off the bench as long as he can’t overtake Harden in a battle for the nickel role. Beyond him, Cleveland is relying on a collection of young and largely unproven players to round out the room.

That becomes a concern when considering the realities of an NFL season.

Cornerback is one of the positions where depth gets tested every year. Injuries are inevitable, and teams rarely make it through a full season with their top three corners available every week. If either Ward or Campbell were forced to miss significant time, the Browns would immediately be asking players with limited NFL experience to step into meaningful defensive roles.

That is not a criticism of the young players currently on the roster. Developmental corners often emerge during camp and throughout the season. The issue is that Cleveland is placing a significant amount of faith in projection rather than proven production. After Bryant, there is virtually no NFL experience on the roster at the position. Dom Jones got in a few games last season as UDFA for the Browns, and D’Angelo Ross has played 292 defensive snaps in his career, including 41 for the Browns last season, but he is 5’9 and was often on the receiving end of Denzel Boston highlights in OTAs and minicamp. Tre Avery played 559 defensive snaps in his first two seasons as a UDFA in Tennessee and played 42 for the Browns last season. Michael Coats Jr. and Nate Evans are the Browns’ UDFA signings this season at the position, and Tyron Herring was a UDFA and practice squad player in Green Bay and New England last season.

The Browns have not invested much at the cornerback room over the last several years, and the depth behind their starting trio at cornerback remains one of the thinner spots on the roster. For a defense expected to play plenty of man coverage and match up against some of the AFC’s elite passing attacks, having reliable cornerback depth could be critical.

Even though the cornerback depth feels like one of the most inexperienced and unproven positions on the roster, it’s unlikely Andrew Berry addresses the position with a serious solution before week one. Every summer, capable veterans become available as teams trim rosters, and the Browns should be paying close attention to that market.

The Browns have enough talent at the top of the cornerback room to compete with anyone. The question is whether they have enough behind those starters to withstand the inevitable injuries and attrition that come with a 17-game season.

As training camp approaches, cornerback depth remains one of the biggest unanswered questions on an otherwise talented defensive roster.

If there was one clear takeaway from the Browns’ mandatory minicamp, it’s that Shedeur Sanders has done enough to prolong this competition.

Coming into the spring, the expectation was that Sanders was behind Deshaun Watson, and to have any realistic chance of winning the job, he would need to make up considerable ground. However, the Browns leave minicamp without a clear separation between the two quarterbacks. In many ways, the closing of the gap that has seemed to come to fruition in the last two weeks or so is massive for Sanders’ chances of winning this starting quarterback job.

The reality is the Browns already know what they have in Watson.

Whether you believe Watson can return to some better iteration of himself or not, Cleveland has years of NFL tape, practices, starts, injuries, and failures to evaluate. There simply aren’t many unanswered questions left. The Browns know the strengths, the limitations, and the long-term outlook.

Sanders is the opposite.

Every snap he takes answers a question the Browns don’t yet have a complete answer for.

Can he handle NFL defenses? Can he elevate the offense? Can he become a franchise quarterback? Can he develop into something greater than what he’s shown so far?

Those questions can only be answered through playing time. Those questions are intriguing at the very least.

That’s why, if training camp and the preseason ultimately leave Todd Monken believing that Watson and Sanders are performing at a similar level, the most sensible argument is to roll with Sanders, a player who is still improving.

The Browns are entering a new era under Todd Monken. This organization needs clarity at the most important position in sports. If Sanders is close enough to Watson that coaches cannot confidently say one is clearly better than the other, it would make sense to invest those reps in learning more about the quarterback who could potentially be part of the future.

That doesn’t mean they should hand Sanders the job simply because he’s younger. He still has to earn it. But earning it doesn’t necessarily mean dominating the competition. It may simply mean proving he can operate the offense at a level comparable to Watson.

From a roster-building standpoint, there’s real value in the information gained from Sanders’s playing.

If Sanders plays and struggles, the Browns gain valuable data heading into future drafts and quarterback decisions. If he plays and succeeds, Cleveland may discover they already have the answer in-house. Either outcome provides organizational direction that gets them closer to finding their quarterback.

Starting Watson in a scenario where the competition is essentially even provides far less information. The Browns already know what that evaluation looks like.

That’s why the outcome of this competition may not be decided solely by who throws the prettiest deep ball in August or who completes a slightly higher percentage of passes in camp. If Sanders continues to demonstrate that he belongs on equal footing with Watson, the value of finding out exactly what they have in the young quarterback far outweighs the alternative.

The most significant development of Browns minicamp is that Sanders has done enough to force a prolonged competition, which will pick up in training camp and potentially continue into preseason play and joint practices. I can’t help but believe the longer a decision hangs in the balance, the better chance Sanders has to get the nod in week one.

Denzel Boston Continues to Turn Heads

Denzel Boston put together one of the most impressive offseason programs of any player on the Browns roster, and he capped it off with an outstanding mandatory minicamp.

Throughout OTAs and minicamp, Boston consistently won contested-catch situations, showing the ability to high-point the football and come down with passes in traffic. What has been equally encouraging, however, is that he has looked noticeably faster and more explosive than many expected coming out of the draft.

Rather than being limited to jump-ball opportunities, Boston has found ways to win at all three levels of the field. He has shown the ability to create separation on intermediate routes, stretch defenses vertically, and use his size and body control to dominate in contested situations. That combination is exactly what the Browns hoped to get when they brought him into the organization.

For a young receiver, the consistency has been particularly impressive. There haven’t been many quiet practices. It feels like every time reporters are allowed to watch, Boston finds a way to make a play or generate positive buzz.

Of course, the real test comes when the pads go on, and the games begin to count. Training camp, preseason, and eventually live NFL action will determine whether these performances translate against opposing defenses.

But if what we’ve seen throughout the offseason carries over to game situations, the Browns may have found something they’ve been searching for for a very long time.

Boston possesses the size, catch radius, physicality, and ball skills to become the type of true boundary receiver who can change how defenses must play Cleveland. The Browns have cycled through countless receivers over the years, looking for that complete package. Boston is off to a great start and has flashed signs that he might be that kind of player.

It’s still early, but few players have done more to elevate their stock this spring. If his offseason performance is any indication of what’s to come, Denzel Boston could emerge as one of the biggest stories of Browns training camp and potentially the kind of wide receiver this organization has been missing for years.

The Browns 2026 offense is going through drastic changes, as we all know. Schematic, personnel, and more. With those changes, and investments at the position, means the once wide open receiver room is getting narrow. There are new mouths to feed and limited opportunity for those who saw plenty of it last year. One name that keeps coming up from last year’s team trying to pin down a role this year is Isaiah Bond. Todd Monken spoke about the second-year receiver following Tuesday’s session.

“Really come along. Early on, getting his feet underneath himself and learning the offense. But he’s certainly put himself in position to make plays down the field. Everybody knows about his speed. I think what’s undervalued is his balance and body control. I think he gets in and out of his breaks and is able to keep his speed and it’s been fun to watch. He’s going to continue to take steps with the way he practices.”

As you recall, Bond went undrafted in 2025 after allegations surfaced weeks before the draft, despite being projected as a Day 2 selection. He missed all of training camp while the legal situation played out, then joined the Browns mid-camp after the charges were dropped and had to learn a new playbook from scratch. Given that backdrop, 18 receptions for 338 yards across 16 games while working through less-than-ideal quarterback play actually represents a reasonable foundation to build on. The per-reception number is what stands out — Bond averaged 18.8 yards per reception as a rookie, a genuine big-play rate.

That deep-ball connection with Shedeur Sanders has been the recurring theme from practice observations. During OTAs, Sanders threw what reporters described as the throw of the day on a deep ball to Bond — a connection that was visibly developing toward the end of the 2025 regular season. That carried into minicamp, where Sanders found Bond on a deep touchdown pass in 11-on-11 periods on Day 1.

Joel Bitonio announced his retirement on Tuesday morning — the same day the Browns opened mandatory minicamp. The timing felt right. A player who put so much value in showing up and being there for his teammates, working hard, establishing relationships, and retiring on a day when the next version of the Browns are now trying to do the same thing. For twelve years, Bitonio was the quiet and steady center of gravity for this franchise. Not its most famous player, and not its highest-paid, but probably its most consistent. Almost certainly its most professional. And by the time it was all over, a legitimate argument for its greatest modern offensive lineman outside of Joe Thomas.

The resume is straightforward: 178 games played, 178 games started, seven Pro Bowl selections, five All-Pro nods including first-team honors in 2021 and 2022. His seven Pro Bowls rank fourth in team history, trailing only Hall of Famers Joe Thomas, Jim Brown, and Lou Groza. His Pro Bowl and All-Pro totals surpassed even Gene Hickerson, the Browns’ other great guard and a Hall of Famer in his own right. The numbers are excellent. But the numbers don’t fully explain what made Bitonio special.

What made him special was availability. After suffering season-ending injuries in his second and third years in the league, Bitonio came back and played every single offensive snap from 2017 through 2023 — 6,481 consecutive plays. Thomas set the standard and Bitonio did his best to pay homage. He had a knack for relentless preparation, a disciplined approach to his body, and a refusal to take shortcuts. In a league where offensive linemen quietly vanish into the injury report every other week, Bitonio showed up. Week after week, year after year, in every kind of game under every kind of circumstances this franchise could produce — and this franchise produced plenty of difficult circumstances.

He played through the 0-16 season. He played through the constant quarterback carousel. He played in years when the Browns were unwatchable and in years when they overcame the odds. When the team finally broke through with a playoff win in January 2021, Bitonio wasn’t able to be on the field due to Covid-19, but his impact from the special year was felt. He wrote in his retirement letter that the playoff win over Pittsburgh — watching Baker Mayfield keep the football and run for the clinching first down — was the moment that made all the difficult years feel like they had some worth.

There’s also a film case for Bitonio that doesn’t get made often enough. He was not a one-trick guard. His pass protection was elite — as recently as 2024, he ranked tied for eighth among all qualifying guards in ESPN’s pass block win rate at 94.3 percent. But he was also an effective run blocker in multiple scheme types, which is under-appreciated for a player who cycled through as many offensive coordinators and system philosophies as he did. Bitonio didn’t need a particular scheme to succeed. He adjusted. He was smart enough to be effective in gap schemes and zone schemes alike, and that versatility is part of what kept him at the top of the position for so long.

Early in his career you could see the brute strength in the run game that opened up those tight zone lanes for Browns running backs.

The quarterback competition will dominate headlines throughout the next three days of mandatory minicamp, but it is far from the only storyline worth monitoring. Across the roster, several position battles remain unresolved, while a number of players are competing for larger roles heading into training camp.

From the battle for the final wide receiver spots to questions surrounding the secondary, linebacker depth, and how the revamped offensive line will come together, minicamp should provide valuable insight into where this roster stands. Here are some of the most important competitions and storylines to watch beyond the quarterback room.

Wide Receiver: Who Is In line To Secure Roster Spots?

The top of the Browns’ wide receiver room appears to be taking shape, with Jerry Jeudy, Denzel Boston, KC Concepcion, and Isaiah Bond all looking well-positioned heading into mandatory minicamp. The real intrigue lies behind them, where several receivers will be battling for what could be just one or two remaining roster spots.

Cedric Tillman remains somewhat of a necessity because of the size he brings to the roster. The physical tools have never been in question, and flashes of his potential continue to show up whenever he is on the field. With a new coaching staff and offensive system in place, Tillman has an opportunity to prove he can become more than just a depth piece and establish himself as a consistent contributor. However, to this point, it has never amounted to more than flashes and hopes.

Tylan Wallace enters camp with a strong case of his own. Beyond what he can provide offensively, Wallace’s value on special teams could prove critical when final roster decisions are made. His familiarity with several members of the coaching staff and ability to contribute in multiple phases of the game give him a legitimate path to securing a roster spot.

Then there is Malachi Corley. The former second-round pick brings a unique skill set with the ball in his hands and has the ability to create yards after the catch. His toughness and leadership make him one of my favorites and a player who can fill a missing component of grit to this unit. I hope he can demonstrate reliability on offense and continue to make plays throughout minicamp and training camp; here’s hoping he can make the 53, but it will be tough.

With roster spots limited and competition expected to intensify once training camp arrives, the mandatory minicamp will serve as an important evaluation period for a group of receivers looking to prove they belong in Cleveland’s long-term plans.

Who Emerges as the Third Linebacker?

While much of the attention at linebacker has focused on Carson Schwesinger and Quincy Williams, the battle for the third linebacker spot could end up being one of the more important competitions of training camp.

There is little doubt that Schwesinger and Williams are expected to handle the majority of the snaps. Both possess the range, athleticism, and versatility to stay on the field in a variety of situations, making them natural fits for the Browns’ primary defensive packages. The real question is who joins them when Cleveland goes to a traditional base defense or faces opponents determined to establish the run.

At the moment, Justin Jefferson appears to be the early favorite. His physical style of play and ability to take on blocks make him a logical complement to the speed and pursuit ability that Schwesinger and Williams bring to the defense. In heavier personnel groupings, Jefferson’s skill set could allow Cleveland to maintain physicality without sacrificing too much athleticism.

Winston Reid is another name worth monitoring closely. The coaching staff has consistently valued his athletic profile and special teams contributions, and if he can stay healthy, he has the experience and versatility to challenge for meaningful snaps. Reid may ultimately offer the safest option because of his familiarity with NFL defenses and ability to contribute in multiple phases of the game.

Nathaniel Watson remains in the conversation; however, he feels like a bit of a long shot to make the roster at this point. Easton Mascarans-Arnold fits the mold of a Browns linebacker better and had some good moments last year.

Ultimately, this battle may come down to what defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg wants from his third linebacker. If the priority is physicality and stopping the run, Jefferson could have the edge. If versatility and experience become the deciding factors, Reid may have a legitimate path to earning those snaps. Either way, this is a competition worth watching throughout minicamp and training camp, as the winner could play a significant role whenever the Browns move into their base defensive packages.

Cornerback: The Battle for the Nickel Role

The Browns appear set at the top of their cornerback depth chart with Denzel Ward and Tyson Campbell expected to handle the majority of the outside responsibilities. Beyond those two, however, there are still meaningful snaps available, particularly in the slot and among the depth pieces that will be counted on throughout a long season.

Myles Harden enters mandatory minicamp as one of the favorites to secure a significant role. The young defensive back flashed encouraging potential when given opportunities and has positioned himself well to compete for the nickel corner job. His versatility and familiarity with the system could give him an early advantage as the coaching staff continues to evaluate the secondary.

The addition of Myles Bryant is intriguing enough to challenge Harden, given his legitimate experience in this role.

At the same time, this remains one of the more competitive position groups on the roster. Several young defensive backs will be looking to make their case for defensive snaps, roster security, and special teams responsibilities. With defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg expected to emphasize versatility throughout the secondary, players who can line up in multiple spots and contribute in various situations may have the inside track.

UDFA Nate Evans has been making some plays in OTAs, and UDFA Michael Coats Jr. has been around the ball a ton, flashing some potential as well.

While the starters appear largely settled, the battle for the nickel role and depth positions is far from over. Mandatory minicamp will provide another opportunity for Harden and the rest of the group to separate themselves before training camp intensifies.

How Does the Offensive Line Fit Together?

The Browns spent the offseason making significant investments in the offensive line, but one of the biggest questions entering mandatory minicamp is how all of the pieces ultimately fit together.

On paper, Cleveland has improved both its talent and depth up front. The challenge now is to determine the best combination of five starters and identify where each player fits within the larger picture. Several of the Browns’ offensive linemen bring valuable positional flexibility, which is a positive for the roster but also creates questions about how the coaching staff intends to deploy them.

Will the Browns prioritize putting their five best linemen on the field regardless of position? Will certain players cross-train at multiple spots to create additional depth? And how quickly can the group develop the chemistry necessary to operate at a high level in Todd Monken’s offense?

Mandatory minicamp should provide some early clues. Watching where players line up during team drills, which combinations receive the most reps together, and how the coaching staff rotates personnel could offer valuable insight into Cleveland’s plans heading into training camp.

The talent level appears improved across the board, but the offensive line still feels very unsettled. The next few practices may begin to reveal how the Browns envision the line coming together when the regular season arrives. It would be nice to have defined roles in place before they break later this week.

Defining the Safety Roles

Another fascinating storyline entering mandatory minicamp is how defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg plans to deploy his safeties. The Browns have several talented players at the position, but each brings a different skill set to the table, creating a variety of possibilities for how the defense could be structured.

Grant Delpit remains one of the defense’s most versatile pieces. His ability to play deep, operate near the line of scrimmage, blitz, and match up against tight ends gives Rutenberg significant flexibility when designing coverages and pressure packages. The question is whether Delpit settles into a more traditional role or continues serving as the movable chess piece within the defense.

Ronnie Hickman enters the season as one of the more experienced players in the secondary and has shown he can handle a variety of responsibilities. His experience and reliable tackling make him a strong candidate for a significant workload, particularly in situations where communication and alignment become critical.

Then there is Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, one of the most intriguing young players on the roster. His athleticism, range, and playmaking ability could allow the Browns to get creative with three-safety looks. If he develops quickly, Cleveland may have the flexibility to disguise coverages more effectively and create matchup advantages against opposing offenses.

The biggest question may not be who starts, but how often Rutenberg chooses to utilize multiple safeties together. With Delpit, Hickman, and McNeil-Warren all possessing different strengths, the Browns could have an opportunity to make the safety position one of the most versatile groups on the entire defense. Minicamp should provide some early indications of how Rutenberg intends to maximize that talent heading into training camp.

Will the Browns Add Another Edge Rusher?

The Browns appear to have a solid foundation at defensive end, but it is fair to wonder whether the front office is completely finished adding to the position group.

Jared Verse is expected to lead the room following the blockbuster Myles Garrett trade, and the Browns have several good pieces in place with Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire. The question is whether the Browns feel comfortable with the current depth or view the position as still needing another proven contributor before the regular season begins.

Pass rush depth is critical in today’s NFL. Injuries are inevitable, and teams rarely make it through a full season relying on just three edge rushers. The Browns have emphasized building strength along both lines this offseason, which makes edge rusher a position worth monitoring throughout minicamp and training camp.

Adding another veteran makes sense, although much has changed with Garrett gone and Rutenburg pulling the levers, a four-man rotation still seems like the best approach. Cleveland’s front office has consistently shown a willingness to remain active throughout the summer if it believes an upgrade is available.

Mandatory minicamp may offer clues about how comfortable the coaching staff is with the current group. If younger players emerge and establish themselves as reliable rotational options, the Browns may stand pat. If questions remain about the depth behind Verse, adding a fourth edge rusher could become one of the team’s priorities before Week One.

I know this is a Cleveland Browns website and we stick there most days, but today’s district ruling has the potential to impact sports at all levels. As someone covering the Browns, it would be negligence to ignore the case with Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby given his potential to join the league this summer — especially with the Browns as one of the teams would could vie for his services. But following this morning’s news, the NCAA is in a very dangerous place. After a prolonged period of appeals and denials, the NCAA’s stance on Sorsby is moot. The star quarterback, who has a prolonged gambling history including betting on his own team, has been granted the coveted temporary injunction in district court that will allow him to play the 2026 season in Lubbock.

Just last week the NCAA denied the appeal from Sorsby and Texas Tech for all the right reasons. You simply cannot be allowed to place sports bets on your sport and especially your own team. Court filings revealed Sorsby placed bets on his own team 40 times and used family members’ or friends’ gambling accounts to evade detection — $90,000 in total bets over four years.

Following a two-hour hearing last week in Lubbock County District Court, with the decision in the hands of Judge Ken Curry, a retired judge from Tarrant County, Curry asked for additional documentation and was expected to render a decision within days. Sorsby’s attorneys asked for a ruling by June 15 so he could decide on entering the NFL supplemental draft by the June 22 deadline.

Sorsby’s legal team — led by Jeffrey Kessler, the attorney who negotiated the House v. NCAA settlement, and Dustin Burrows, speaker of the Texas House of Representatives — argued that Sorsby suffers from a serious mental health condition that should constitute extenuating circumstances. They contend the NCAA “weaponized his condition to shore up a facade of competitive integrity, while simultaneously profiting from the very gambling ecosystem it polices.” A secondary argument: Sorsby never bet on a game he actually played in, and his gambling was demonstrably addictive behavior rather than an attempt at financial gain — evidenced by low-stakes bets on things like Australian Open women’s doubles, Turkish basketball, and Romanian soccer.

Over the weekend, on June 6, the NCAA as expected denied Texas Tech’s appeal to reinstate Sorsby’s eligibility — an expected development given the nature and extent of his infractions. That made the injunction essentially his only remaining path to playing college football in 2026 and today he was granted that injunction and further opens the door for more nefarious behavior in the sport. This has the potential to do damage far beyond the scope of current fears surrounding NIL.

The ruling said that Sorsby "demonstrated that he will suffer a probable, imminent, and irreparable injury if this Court does not issue this temporary injunction because he will be unable to participate as a member of Texas Tech University's 2026 Football season." The NCAA responded below.

The Browns would have been in an interesting place if Sorsby was eligible for the NFL’s supplemental draft. He can play, without a doubt, and we have covered as much here at Browns Film Breakdown.

Just last week Todd Monken, notably, said it would be a "slippery slope" to draft Sorsby in the supplemental draft. Given the Browns' quarterback situation with Watson and Sanders, that's a pretty clear public signal Cleveland is staying away — even though it’s easy to make the analytical case for him. The Browns can also be adept at publicly stating one thing and doing diligence and making the tough decisions later.

Who knows where Sorsby would have gone in the supplemental draft. Personally, I thought anything before a fourth-round pick would have been a massive risk given all of the surrounding circumstances. The NFL could also have gone their own route for punishment as they’ve been known to do with other supplemental picks over the years. But now we won’t know any of that. Sorsby will serve a “slap on the wrist” two-game suspension as Tech plays Abilene Christian and Oregon State, and then go about building his draft stock once again on the college level.

Sorsby will obviously be one of the more debated prospects in the 2027 cycle. The talent will put him in all the big quarterback discussions following the year, but this issue won’t just disappear. He will get his NIL collections from Tech but he will face the type of appropriate challenge from teams who have to trust him to be the “face of the franchise.”

For now, we inch closer than ever to losing the NCAA as we know it. The sport is teetering on the brink of changing to something none of us will recognize. As the court systems continue to leave their fingerprints all over decisions made by the NCAA, eventually the house of cards is going to fall. Who knows where it all lands. Today’s ruling makes it tougher than ever to see the sport landing somewhere better down the line.

In his rookie season, Verse posted a 64.7% bull rush rate and a 69.1% power move rate, both of which led the entire NFL according to analyst James Foster, who charted edge rusher move rates in 2024. Verse led all NFL edge rushers in total pressures with 89.
