53-Man Roster Projection (Defense)
After the first preseason game, it's time to start thinking about the shape of the roster so let's start on the defensive side of the ball.
53-man projections are a standard of the best writer’s arsenal but, unlike some sportswriting tropes, I do think they serve a purpose.
Sketching out the roster at this stage of the preseason can help illuminate the areas where the roster is tightest and point to players that may be competing for their roster spot over the next three weeks.
With that in mind, we'll do one round of predictions now and perhaps one more closer to the cutdown day. As a reminder, there is now only one roster cut, from 90 to 53 players. This year, it falls on August 28th.
Today, we will sketch out the defensive side of the ball and later this week we'll have the offense.
