Browns Film Breakdown Morning Newsletter: 11/4/2024
The Chargers secondary had the Browns about as dialed in as any group I have seen all year.
Welcome in guys. This is a tough Monday for Browns content considering the product they put on the field yesterday. I don’t doubt the group wanted to win that game but it felt like one side was more than prepared to do what it took to get the job done and the other didn’t meet the necessary standard. The Browns simply do not have enough talent at the right spots to overcome that type of discrepancy.
As I have started to consume the film it is noticeable how much more prepared the Chargers felt on both sides of the football. Offensively they had the right idea what the Browns would turn to in 3rd and long situations and had the right schemes to challenge the rules of those coverages. The ability to put stress on the zone coverage looks in the right way was the difference for the Chargers offense. We will break that down in greater detail later today.
As for this morning I want to give you one specific example of a concept the Browns’ offense has run consistently this year and how the Chargers could see it coming before it happened. That ability to know tendency, sit on the tendency, and then get a result from it, was something that happened for most of this game and was why the Browns were unable to get the ball moving with any consistency.
Reminder on what we’re doing with these Newsletters each morning:
We will aim to do with this Morning Newsletter — give you something new to know. This Newsletter won’t be over-saturated with links to click on or anything useless but rather something small, concise, and meaningful that has to do with the Browns each morning. Topics will vary but normally it’ll be something I watched on film review, or something I noticed about the next opponent, or a college player I think you should know ahead of the off-season. Just a piece of information I think is worth your time and definitely won’t waste your time. That is what you can expect. And with a nice and direct link to your daily podcast as well.
We have to turn on the film and just take the punishment so buckle up, folks.
The best example I can give you guys for the Chargers knowledge of what concepts the Browns were going to put at them was this 3rd quarter interception. The Browns love running “Dagger Concept” from 3x1 and the Chargers knew it. The concept, as shown below, is meant to clear out deep coverage with a “through” route from No. 2 (F) and a dig route (Z) underneath that clear out route. Then you get a hi/low on the inside linebacker.
