Here are my notes and thoughts having watched the Browns get after it the last two days.

Practice Notes

  • The Browns focused on gap concept install on Tuesday with more layering of it on Wednesday — including reads for the quarterback in run and RPOs. They are focusing on pullers in space (pin and pull) and those power/counter concepts.

  • Today was a ton of JET and FLY sweep install from under-center and in the gun. The Browns want to use their speed to stretch defenses laterally and it was probably called seven times in various sessions.

  • There was a clear focus on hi/low read off play-action as well. You saw balls being thrown over the middle often and trying to hit those deep middle throws.

  • Just as Brad noted from over the weekend, installation periods continued to be run at roughly half speed, as the priority remained learning assignments, motions, and adjustments. Those happened at various times throughout the session but they always seem to have one session built on half speed and a higher, or elevated, mental approach.

  • The offense is working diligently to get the pre-snap procedural penalties and all the movement of shifts and motions ironed out.

  • I knew it was coming but, man, Monken loves bunch looks from 3x1 and 4x1 with tight trips. They are shifting or motioning on just about every approach to the line-of-scrimmage.

  • Noticeable that the coaching staff has more fire and passion on the daily. Monken has stopped the session multiple times the last two days to lay into players making mental mistakes.
