Gameday Newsletter: Week 5, Commanders
We are the steady presence you need as the Browns travel to Washington to take on the Commanders.
Here we are again. Meeting on another Sunday to think, talk, and invest in these Cleveland Browns. We can’t help but show up, no matter how hard we fight it. I’ve heard it called a sickness, and well, that is still the best descriptor. They’re 1-3 but there’s belief a win today and they’re back on the right track.
They travel East today to face the Commanders in what has turned into a must-win for the Browns as they have to avoid one of their worst five game stretches in the Kevin Stefasnki era and stay out of the basement in the division. It should be a beautiful day in the Nation’s Capital and it should one again be packed with Browns fans who, despite the indifference, find a way to travel better than anyone in the NFL.
Now, some more good news to start your day!
Inside the weekly Gameday Newsletter you will get all the pieces of information paired with your Gameday Podcast to enhance your Sundays with this team.
Week 5, Browns vs Commanders: Gameday Edition
Welp, Sunday is here and we have a team who badly needs a win. Whatever it takes — no matter how pretty or ugly. Get. The. Win.
Per the Sunday usual, I request that you sit back, pour your coffee, turn on the best pre-game Browns song known to man, and enjoy a fresh delivery of all the best information from the BFB staff.
Expect a beautiful day for football in our nation's capitol as sunny skies and light winds make for perfect early October weather. The Browns and Redskins/Commanders history started well before the AFL/NFL merger. The teams were former Eastern Conference rivals that started playing in 1950 and met twice yearly until the 1970 AFL/NFL merger . The Browns went a whopping 30-5-1 against the Redskins franchise in the 1950-1969 era — as they did with many teams during those years.
From 1971 to 2016, the Browns are 3-7 against the Redskins, but in their last two matchups with the Browns are 2-0 against the Washington Football Team and now the Washington Commanders.
The Browns lead the all-time series 35-12-1.
This week is all about identifying what Jayden Daniels does well and trying to make the rookie uncomfortable in ways the rest of the NFL has failed to do up to this point. On the Gameday Podcast we spoke about how Kliff Kingsbury is using Daniels in ways the feel similar to his LSU days but dressing them up in ways that are effective against NFL defenses.
