Welcome back my people as we start down the Newsletter path for the week. We have some great things brewing behind the scenes at Browns Film Breakdown, but it is eating into my time more than I would like. Despite that, we’re back and we are locked back in.

The Browns’ brass has wrapped up their time down in Dallas for Shrine Bowl practice and visits and are now down in Mobile for the Senior Bowl. The Shrine Bowl game is set for Thursday with the Senior Bowl coming this weekend. We have had plenty of interesting quotes come out from both Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski in their time spent with the media — both local and national.

Berry spoke on a bevy of topics including Myles Garrett’s future with the team. He noted he wants a direct line between Cleveland and Canton for Garrett and wants him to retire a Brown. There are clear workings behind the scenes to get a long-term third contract for the franchise leader. It is just a matter of when. Garrett clearly wants to remain in Cleveland and they will make that happen.

Berry also spoke about the rumors that the Browns were a part of the teams telling Shedeur Sanders that he didn’t need to participate in Shrine Bowl practices or the game.

This sort of news pops up out of nowhere and is tough to be traced back for accuracy so it was important for Berry to clear the air on that one. It also keeps the feelings for Sanders, and draft intentions, hidden as they should be at this point.

Stefanski spent some time with NFL Radio during today’s session in Mobile and spoke freely about the system in place and how they believe they can make it work with a new quarterback in place.

It remains clear to me that the Browns highest front office leadership pushed the offensive changes last offseason and now Stefanski is back inside his comfort zone. We will see if that zone for Stefanski can yield the type of results we saw from a few years back.

We have to talk about Jalen Milroe. There is a strong belief the Browns are going to take the Alabama-product for one reason: he is connected to Tommy Rees’ coaching history. That is it. Nothing else about the player says the Browns movements for offensive structure and style make sense for the pairing.

We have no indication Milroe can live inside an offense that gets under-center 35% of the time and plays in a manner that needs real anticipation, consistent accuracy, and timely decisions. Milroe is a “see it, throw it” quarterback right now who doesn’t not process the whole field in a way that makes sense here. Stylistically the match is not there. Let’s dig into more details.
