Newsletter: Salary Cap Climbing, Myles Trade Updates, and Trying to Cope Early
Thoughts on the NFL's cap spike, the latest on 95's trade, and some players to help us forget the pain.
Good morning, folks. As always I hope this Newsletter finds you well. While we’re in the midst of the NFL’s slowest period of movement outside of the summer months, there are some things worth digging into and keeping you all up to date on what is happening.
Quick first reminder on the NFL calendar and what is looming ahead in the coming weeks and months. The Franchise Tag window is open and while there aren’t many names worth monitoring outside of Tee Higgins and Sam Darnold, we will keep you apprised to how those moves impact the Browns as they come up. Otherwise here are the important dates with the combine coming up next week.
We usually get more movement on the Franchise Tag (and its variety of types) closer to that March 4th deadline. As for the Browns the only move they have made in the recent week is releasing running back Nyheim Hines — a player who was signed coming off an ACL tear and never found his way onto the active roster. There was a chance his contract would potentially toll into next year due to his Non-Football Injury designation but the Browns decided to part ways. We will see if this is the end of their story.
The biggest news of the past few days is the salary cap jump. We all knew this was coming as TV money continues to pour in like passing GO in Monopoly, but the jump was even a little bigger than expected by cap experts around the league.
The league also sent out a memo per their communications department about why that number isn’t exactly pinned down quite yet.
The question is what does this mean and how does this impact the Browns.
