Recapping Training Camp Day 8

The Browns got after it with plenty of best-on-best team periods.

The Browns came into today’s session with a clear goal of having their first team getting plenty of run on both sides of the ball. It wasn’t always the 1s vs each other, but the groups played a good number of best on best periods and the practice was physical. They got into team quickly today with a “coming out” period where the offense is buried in their own territory. Dillon Gabriel led the second-team against the first defense for several snaps and Joe Flacco ran plenty with both units as he and Gabriel moved around.

Shedeur Sanders had a lighter day of reps overall as the two in front of him handled 75 percent of the reps on the day. Kenny Pickett also made an appearance at the session as he worked his way back into individual period nursing the sort hamstring. The physicality was on display early as both young quarterbacks left late throws over the middle that brought heavy hits from veteran safeties coming downhill.

I would say this session had more overall team reps than any of the other five I’ve been in attendance. Kevin Stefanski admitted it was a sloppy session overall and that he’s glad it’s only August 1st. He did, however, mention the sense of urgency needed to improve quickly as preseason game one looms a week from today. That urgency was evident in how they structured today’s session.

The offense had more down moments than positive but it’s a matter of perspective as the first unit is going against the second defense for a majority of practice and the second unit is trying to find traction against the best version of the defense the Browns have to offer.
