Saturday Prospect Spotlight: Hurricane Hurler
A 2025 quarterback who can extend plays with the best of them, crazy production, and an impressive reel of NFL throws.
The focus of the college football world will be in B1G Country as No. 3 Penn State hosts No. 4 Ohio State in a clash of coaches, and programs, who badly need a win in the biggest of stages. While eyes will rightfully be in Happy Valley, we do have some other bigger names clashing with Florida and Georgia getting together in Jacksonville, and the ACC gives us a new ranked battle with SMU and Pitt squaring off later in the evening. The last time we felt bad about the overall slate like this we saw three Top-5 teams lose a few weeks back so you never truly know.
Reminder: As the Browns make a return to the first round of this year's NFL Draft, each Saturday we will highlight a player worth watching with the Browns’ prospect preferences in mind!
Obviously we will focus on the highest-ranked prospects this year because the Browns could have a wide range of outcomes for their pick, but we hope they select the 32nd overall prospect following a Super Bowl win but we will expand beyond that scope at times.
Once again as our eyes are on the Cleveland Browns we keep poking around this quarterback class to see if there is a name worth taking in the upcoming class. Today we head down to Miami to discuss the enigma that is Cam Ward and what his value will be for teams come the 2025 NFL Draft.
History
Cam Ward was a little known and lightly recruited quarterback out of West Columbia, Texas. He went to Columbia High School where within a Wing-T offense he rarely threw the ball and only had one offer to the University of Incarnate Word. He lit it up at Incarnate Word during his two seasons in the FCS winning the Jerry Rice Award as the Most Outstanding Freshman and then the Southland Conference Player of the Year as a Sophomore.
Entering the Transfer Portal, Ward committed to Washington State where he thrived for two seasons before entering the NFL Draft. He pulled back that decision to attend the Miami University with the heavy impact of NIL and aimed to improve his draft stock overall.
