What a weird weekend of games but, man, it’s the type of strange slate nobody saw coming before the season and why we love college football. It’s Week 9 and we have a Notre Dame vs Navy game with both teams ranked. The same with Texas vs Vanderbilt, Illinois vs Oregon, and that’s not even counting undefeated Indiana and a ranked SMU team. This seems like an era long gone based on the nostalgic names and traditional powers struggling but that’s what makes it fun! Weird slate of games but it’ll be a blast to watch all day so order those wings and get comfortable on that couch.

Reminder: As the Browns make a return to the first round of this year's NFL Draft, each Saturday we will highlight a player worth watching with the Browns’ prospect preferences in mind!

Obviously we will focus on the highest-ranked prospects this year because the Browns could have a wide range of outcomes for their pick, but we hope they select the 32nd overall prospect following a Super Bowl win but we will expand beyond that scope at times.

For the purpose of Cleveland Browns interest I point you toward more college quarterbacks because it almost feels like negligence if we don’t. LSU has turned out a few guys in recent years you might recall at the position so we visit the Bayou again as Garrett Nussmeier’s name is picking up major steam in scouting circles for the 2025 NFL Draft.

History

Nussmeier is the son of former NFL quarterback Doug Nussmeier who is the current LA Chargers quarterback coach and as a coach’s son he moved as his Dad’s jobs took the family to several different places. For his high school tenure, he was settled in Texas at Marcus High School in Flower Mound and Nussmeier thrived. He ended up as a Top-150 recruit in the 2021 class and a four star prospect.

Nussmeier chose LSU over several big offers from the likes of Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, and many others. He saw action throughout his first three seasons where he redshirted his freshman year. Spent the last two seasons backing up Jayden Daniels before getting his first starting opportunity in 2024.

Stats

2024 (7 games): 183-283 (64.7%), 2,222 yards, 18 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 2 rushing touchdowns
