Silver Lining Performances From Loss In Washington
Even after what some would consider the worst performance in recent Browns history, there are performances worth noting in the 34-13 loss.
Perhaps someday soon the Browns will be playing so well and winning consecutive games that it’ll force me to write about a few poor performances. For now, the inverse is true and that means we have to sift through the numerous poor performances to find a few who can brighten our Tuesday morning.
Sunday’s disappointment in Washington was filled with even more negative than the weekend before in Las Vegas, so, I’m telling you, this took some effort. Fair to say this game was in the bottom-five of team performances during the Kevin Stefanski era. Nonetheless, a select few players deserve some praise, so let’s get to it.
Jedrick Wills
In his first full game of the 2024 season, Wills performed pretty well. He did allow one sack in the 4th quarter on a failed twist exchange, but in his other 61 snaps he allowed only one other pressure against constant predictable pass sets. His quickness in pass set was evident and put him in quality positions. He landed a strong punch when absorbing contact, and helped cut off the quick corner against Washington’s speed rushers.
He was also one of the few who was a net positive in the run blocking phase. He did well gapping down when called upon, moving in zone from the first to second level, and played with effort. This is the version of Wills that has a future in Cleveland.
