The GameDay Opening Drive 9/28: Week 4, Challenge Awaits in the Motor City
Browns are in Detroit today to once again see if they can beat the NFC's elite.

The Browns have a unique opportunity today. They travel the short trip up to Detroit to take on the Lions in a game nobody expects them to win. The same experience happened last week, but the Browns were at home and have responded well to those situations. Today, on the road, they have a chance to prove they can travel into hostile environments and do the same thing they did last week — shock the NFL world.
The Lions are coming off an elite road win of their own by going into Baltimore and beating the Ravens in primetime so the Browns will have a hot team in their own building ready to roll. This is the type of game Kevin Stefanski could benefit from having his team ready to play and ready to spoil the Lions home crowd expecting an easy win.
These franchises have a deep history in the NFL and bring passionate fan bases to the forefront each and every week. There is plenty of mutual respect and I think you will see a real battle today in the Motor City.
Inside the weekly GameDay Opening Drive you will get all the pieces of information paired with your GameDay Podcast to enhance your Sundays with this team.

It’s a dome. The climate will be lovely, folks. If you are outside meandering the streets of Detroit, it will partly sunny with a high around 78 for game time.
Just like the Browns/Packers history the week before, the Browns/Lions history might run even deeper in the NFL’s roots. The two teams were locked in a back and forth battle as the best in the league during the 1950s. The Browns won three NFL Championships in the decade (1950, 1954, and 1955) while the Lions won three of their own (1952, 1953, 1957). The Lions beat the Browns in two close Championship games in 1952 and 1953 before the Browns beat the Lions handedly for the 1954 title.
Then the Lions came back and did the same thing to the Browns in 1957 in a 59-14 blowout.
The rivalry ran deep and would have felt something like the Chiefs and the Eagles today based on the dominance of the decade. The Browns were able to capture a Championship in 1964, the last between the two franchises, and since the merger neither team has won a championship during the Super Bowl era.
The NFL/AFL merger happened and the two sides lost touch. The Lions have dominated the all-time series with the Browns only winning two of six matchups since the return in 1999. It is 19-6 Lions for the series.
