As the first wave of NFL free agency settles, the league’s focus has quickly shifted to the trade market, particularly at wide receiver.

Notable deals have already shaken up the market. The Colts traded Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers, while the Bears sent DJ Moore and a fifth-round pick in return for the Bills’ 2026 second-round pick.

Those moves came as several top free-agent receivers quickly left the market. Romeo Doubs signed with the New England Patriots, while Alec Pierce re-signed with Indianapolis.

With the free-agent receiver pool shrinking, teams seeking help are now eyeing possible trades. The Browns need an influx of talent in the wide receiver room and an addition before the draft would go a long way. If a move is coming, it is more likely to come in the form of a trade.

Big Names Generating Hype

As with any trade cycle, some of the biggest names in rumors remain long shots.

A.J. Brown is one such example. Brown is one of the league’s most productive receivers and a key part of the Philadelphia Eagles’ offense. If Philadelphia were to entertain offers, the asking price would be enormous.

One league executive indicated the Eagles would seek a first- and second-round pick in return. The Patriots have been among the teams monitoring that situation.

Two other receivers generating speculation are Brian Thomas Jr. and Marvin Harrison Jr., both young stars viewed as core pieces for their franchises.

However, recent reports suggest that neither player may be as available as once believed.

Appearing on 92.3 The Fan, Albert Breer addressed the speculation directly.

“I checked into the Brian Thomas Jr. thing, and I was emphatically told he is not available. On Marvin Harrison Jr., I never got the sense that he was available,” Breer said.

Another receiver mentioned in trade speculation is Chris Olave. The Saints’ salary cap situation sparks questions about potential roster moves, though there has been no strong indication that Olave is being shopped.

Realistic Trade Candidates

If Cleveland wants to upgrade its receiving corps through a trade, more realistic options likely come from a different tier of the market.

Before free agency began, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler highlighted several receivers who have surfaced in league discussions.

“Baltimore’s Rashod Bateman, Los Angeles’ Quentin Johnston, and Green Bay’s Dontayvion Wicks have come up in my talks.”

These players often become available as teams evaluate depth charts in the offseason.

Dontayvion Wicks has developed into a reliable route runner in Green Bay’s deep receiving room. Because several young pass catchers compete for opportunities, the Packers could move one for draft capital.

Quentin Johnston remains an intriguing buy-low candidate. The former first-round pick has flashed impressive athletic ability but has yet to deliver consistent production.

Meanwhile, Rashod Bateman is a talented route runner whose role has fluctuated in Baltimore’s offense.

Two additional receivers worth monitoring are Treylon Burks and Keon Coleman. Both players show intriguing traits, but have not established themselves as central figures in their offenses. Rumors about Coleman’s off-field maturity could affect teams’ interest in the young receiver.

A Market Worth Watching

For the Browns, their approach to the receiver trade market is likely to prioritize value over headline-grabbing acquisitions. Rather than seeking splashy trades, Cleveland is expected to focus on adding receivers who fit their roster-building philosophy and offer upside at a reasonable cost. General manager Andrew Berry has shown a consistent preference for value-driven deals, frequently acquiring starting-caliber talent in exchange for later-round draft picks in recent off-seasons.

Andrew Berry’s strategy involves pursuing trades that complement the Browns’ existing roster plan. He looks for players with untapped potential or those aiming for bigger roles, rather than targeting established stars who would cost significant draft capital. This disciplined approach allows the Browns to maintain flexibility and maximize their assets.

With the draft ahead and the receiver market constantly changing, the Browns may still look for ways to add another playmaker to their offense.

If the Browns choose that route, they may find the best opportunities to upgrade at receiver on the trade market, considering what’s left in free agency.
