The sunk-cost fallacy is a phenomenon whereby a person is reluctant to abandon a strategy or course of action because they have invested heavily in it, even when it is clear that abandonment would be more beneficial. This best describes the Browns in relation to quarterback Deshaun Watson. The trade, the contract, and the optics of the entire situation have created a kind of handcuff, causing the head coach to hesitate in benching a player who is not living up to expectations.
