The Opening Drive 4/13: Oscar Delp Should Have the Browns Attention
The single best value tight end in the upcoming draft has plenty of connection to Todd Monken.

The Browns need to add talent at tight end. We can all recognize it doesn’t need to be a primary investment, but they need to find the right spot and formulate a competent second option to Harold Fannin Jr. Ideally this second option could be a more formidable blocking option, but also that option needs to be able to make some plays when given the opportunity. That is where I think Oscar Delp from Georgia makes plenty of sense.
He arrived at Georgia as the consensus top tight end recruit in the 2022 class, a four-star prospect who committed to Athens over Alabama and Michigan. Four years later, Oscar Delp is heading to Pittsburgh for the draft still carrying a question that has defined his entire college career: how good could he actually be if someone finally lets him loose?
The production numbers on paper are modest. Delp put up lines of 24-284-3 in 2023, 21-248-4 in 2024, and 20-261-1 in his final season — three years as a starter that barely scratched 300 receiving yards in any given season. But before you close the book on him, understand why those numbers look the way they do. Playing behind Brock Bowers limited his development into the premier pass catcher many expected, and Georgia’s low passing volume further capped his production. This is a player who spent two years learning and developing behind a future premiere NFL tight end in one of the most run-heavy programs in college football. But there is more to Delp’s story than those stats tell you. There’s a bright NFL future here.
