Browns Film Breakdown: Wednesday Newsletter
Welcome to your weekly Wednesday Newsletter -- where we gather for the content that matters and deliver it fresh to your inbox.
I will never be able to get that commercial of the camel walking around the office noting to “Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike” that it is Hump Day. So, now you suffer the same fate with me.
It is indeed Wednesday. And man, a lot has happened in the past week. Mostly bad, right? But the Browns extended JOK and we think that is pretty cool. Unicorn defenders are our preferred type and JOK is just that.
Otherwise, on that downside of operations, we had a Battle of the Backups that Browns lost to Minnesota, the team has dealt with another rash of injuries impacting, but certainly not limited to, the tackle position. Quarterbacks could get traded, one deals with a sore shoulder, and another leads the best pre-game hype huddles known to man.
As always, and in unique fashion, we have you covered here at Browns Film Breakdown. Fortunately, we’ve got the Wednesday newsletter to keep you in tune with the best of what we’ve published so far this week, so you’re as plugged in as any Browns fan you know.
For those new folks: Every Wednesday, you’ll find links to the best stuff we’ve done in four different categories. We’ll start with Plays, a round up of the Film Rooms you need to watch from Sunday’s game. Then we’ll move to Audibles, highlighting the podcast episodes we think you need to catch up. Next up is Reads, gathering the articles from both us and elsewhere across the Internet you’ll want to digest. And finally, end with Chats, catching up on the best community discussions we’ve had this week.
Get it? Got it? Good. Let’s begin.

Finding Running Game Success without Nick Chubb
Nick Chubb is one of, if not the, best running backs in the NFL. The data and film are joined at the hip for a player that has been the cream of the crop at the position since his rookie campaign. Unfortunately, there is uncertainty about his availability for the upcoming season due to a knee injury suffered during Week 2 of the 2023 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cleveland Browns must find success in the running game during his absence in order to move the ball and produce points. Let’s explore how Kevin Stefanski and Ken Dorsey might do that.
53-Man Roster Projection (Offense)
We’re back for part two of the 53-man roster prediction. The offense is harder to predict than the defense, largely because there are more injury issues. I have made note of them where applicable and I think, for the most part, the numbers will work out fine if a few players have to start the year on the PUP list.
No Easy Answers To Browns Tackle Problem
Let’s start here: other than quarterback, there is no position in the NFL harder to answer definitively than left tackle. Teams devote outsized resources to the position specifically because there are only around 10 good ones at any one time. That means 20 teams are on the hunt for an upgrade.
What's Going On With The Reporting From Browns Training Camp?
Through the first few weeks of Browns training camp, Deshaun Watson has either thrown 20 interceptions and should be banished to the CFL or he’s had some nice completions that demonstrate his growing chemistry with Amari Cooper and Jerry Jeudy. The Browns offensive line is either made of year-old Swiss cheese that someone forgot about in the fridge or impossible to glean insight from because of injury. Myles Garrett has either been in the backfield every single play, making life hell for Vikings quarterbacks at joint practice, or he’s been a passive bystander.
The Browns Are Trying To Trade A Quarterback
It’s nice to have one of those problems that don’t feel like a problem. But nonetheless it is still a problem. Well, the Browns have one of those right now at quarterback.
